After a Facebook post I saw and a talk with a very dear friend, I decided to do a series about overwhelm.
We women tend to ask too much of ourselves and then have to deal with the overwhelm. Trying to mend a business, with family and kids, trying to have the perfect household next to it. My friend told me she admired how I good everything so together. First reaction was to look over my shoulder, yes she was talking to me.
For the record, as a recovering perfectionist, I don’t think I have it all together, but I think i’m on the right track. So please let me share with you some of the things I learned and practice on a daily basis.
So in the post the woman ended her story: WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? She was so convinced she was doing something wrong. And to be honest, she is. Most of us women do. We tend to want to do it all. We want to be perfect in everything we do. Problem is: we simply can’t.
So my advice for part 1: accept you can’t do it all!
Sounds simple, mostly harder to do. But the truth here is, the moment we accept we can’t do it all, the pressure we put upon ourselves becomes less. We all have only 24 hours in one day, one body and 2 hands. We can do, what we can. Not more. Just accept you work hard, you do what you can and leave the rest for tomorrow or another day. Just give yourself some slack. Accept you have flows, accept you can’t have 25 hours in a day, accept you did what you can for the day. You’ll have a much better day and life, the moment you start with accepting things the way they are or turned out to be. Because acceptance is the first step to change. Denial won’t get you anywhere.
So do yourself a favor: accept your not the woman in the perfect Hollywood movie (side note: it’s a movie, those perfect women don’t exist in real life), you do all you can to make a living, create a beautiful and loving home and enjoy your life!
